Technology and physiotherapy treatments at ROOTS Center

To be able to offer innovative and effective solutions in our fields of specialisation such as sports physiotherapy, injuries and surgical procedures, as well as pain management for our patients, in addition to good clinical reasoning, we need cutting edge technology to facilitate the way and improve the quality of our treatments, always thinking of the wellbeing of our patients.

Here we summarise some of the main treatments and technology used in our physiotherapy services:

Radial shock waves

The therapy consists of the application of pneumatically generated high-speed sound waves that are applied to the tissues of interest.

Our shockwave equipment "Storz Medical"It consists of an external air compressor, a radial probe that is placed in contact with the skin by means of a conductive gel and a control panel where the intensity, frequency and number of pulses per patient can be changed.

The waves generated propagate through the tissue and act at a local level, generating cellular changes at deeper levels, which produces a stimulation of the nervous system, generating biochemical changes in the area of application, leading to multiple benefits.

Some of the injuries where radial shock waves are of interest are:

  • Tendinopathies
  • Fasciopathies
  • Pseudarthrosis and delayed fracture healing
  • Muscle pain
  • Calcifications
  • Scars


Ultrasound is an imaging technique, also called sonography or ultrasonography. It uses high-frequency sound waves that are sent through the probe into the body and bounced back to be converted into images of the structures to be studied by the transducer.

With musculoskeletal ultrasound we can perform a morphofunctional evaluation of the different tissues such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, bursae, joints or nerves and it also generates a biofeedback between the patient and the physiotherapist.

It can be carried out statically or dynamically, determining the correct functioning of the tissues studied and thus we can carry out a thorough, exhaustive and precise assessment of the area we wish to treat.

Our ultrasound scanner "Vinno"allows us to carry out a detailed assessment in order to identify possible causes of injury and carry out an ultrasound-guided treatment with our interventional techniques, and is mainly indicated for:

  • Early and accurate diagnosis of muscle, tendon and ligament injuries.
  • To monitor the evolution of the injury during the recovery process by being able to directly and constantly observe the response of the injured tissue to the treatment carried out.

Diathermy or tecartherapy

Diathermy or tecartherapy is a form of high-frequency current or radiofrequency that provides many benefits when treating different injuries.

It consists of a non-invasive resistive capacitive energy that generates heat in depth with the aim of accelerating cell metabolism, reaching deep structures such as muscles, ligaments or tendons. Two main applications: capacitive for tissues with high water content and resistive for tissues with low water content.

Through diathermy "WinBack"We help to accelerate and enhance the processes of recovery, healing and regeneration of tissues, with numerous benefits and positive effects on the recovery of patients.

The therapeutic indications are very broad, such as:

  • Dolores musculares
  • Dolores articulares
  • Drenaje linfático
  • Procesos degenerativos (artrosis, etc.)
  • Muscle ruptures
  • Esguinces
  • Scars

Neuromodulation technique

The technique of percutaneous ultrasound-guided percutaneous neuromodulation is defined as the application of an electrical current through an ultrasound-guided needle near a peripheral nerve at some point along its pathway for therapeutic purposes.

With this technique we will look for a sensory and/or motor response by stimulating the peripheral nerve to increase or decrease the excitability of a group of neurons.

The main goals or benefits of neuromodulation are a decrease in pain, restoration of the nervous system and improvement of neuromuscular function.

With neuromodulation we can address different problems such as:

  • Chronic pain
  • Phantom limb pain
  • Root or neural problems
  • Improved neuromuscular function
  • Improved tensegrity and flexibility of the tissue
  • Muscle ruptures
  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
  • Tendinopathies

EPI® (Percutaneous Intratisular Electrolysis)

EPI® is an invasive physiotherapy technique that involves the ultrasound-guided application of a galvanic current through a needle to the area to be treated, boosting the body's healing mechanisms.

The application of galvanic current produces a series of reactions that stimulate the cellular biochemical environment, generating positive effects both locally (reduction of pain, control of inflammation, stimulation of collagen, etc.) and globally. This results in an improvement in both symptomatology and functionality.

Its use can be beneficial because it can help us to generate changes in the patient's symptomatology, especially in their pain, as well as in the structure and biochemical environment, enhancing the body's own natural processes. In addition, pathologies that have a long evolution can shorten healing times.

The EPI® Advanced Is used for the treatment of various injuries such as:

  • Tendinopathies
  • Fasciopathies
  • Lesiones musculares
  • Lesiones ligamentarias
  • Bursopatías


Pressure therapy consists of a pneumatic system with several chambers that distribute the air pressure upwards, improving blood flow and its return to the heart.

For this we use boots adapted to the part of the body that needs to be treated, mainly the legs and arms.

The air pressure is applied in a controlled and individualised way to each patient and the part of the body to be treated. With this technique, the sensation of massage is achieved with sufficient relaxation and compression effects to activate the lymphatic and circulatory system, helping to eliminate liquids, toxins, fats and metabolites, being very interesting post-exertion, for recovery and muscle relaxation.

Each pressotherapy session lasts between 20 and 45 minutes and is indicated for the following problems:

  • Fluid retention
  • Oedema and lymphoedema
  • Stimulating the circulatory and lymphatic system
  • Eliminate and reduce cellulite
  • Relieves muscle pain and heaviness
  • Muscle unloading before a competition
